TORC RemoteTask™: Remote Control System Now Available for Cat® D Series
New Cat® D Series Skid Steer, Multi Terrain and Compact Track Loaders can now be equipped with RemoteTask, a remote control system that allows operators to control machines up to 1,000 feet away. Developed by Caterpillar and TORC Robotics, this remote control system will keep operators out of harm’s way when working in potentially hazardous environments such as demolition, chemical handling, trenching or military and law enforcement.
The RemoteTask system can be easily installed on your Cat machine in as little as an hour by Cleveland Brothers, your local Cat Dealer, and can be transferred between units. The installation includes indicator beacons which are attached to the top of the machine and a Remote Enabled Interface box on the rear exterior of the machine. After installation, the remote system can be turned on or off by the Remote Enable Interface box. The remote system will only operate if there is no weight detected in the operator’s seat.
The RemoteTask system virtually has no delayed response which allows the operator’s performance to be as fast and as smooth as if the operator were in the cab. The 10 pound console or “belly box” gives the operator portability and free range to move around and gain good sight of the work area. The belly box controller is equipped with hydraulic controls, engine RPMs, a creeper and 2-speed controls. Additional safety features include indicator lights for warnings, alarms, faults, vibration and buzzer warning signals and an emergency stop button. If remote control signal is lost, the machine will stop within 0.5 seconds.
Bob Shoop, product demonstrator/instructor for Caterpillar explains “When I use the RemoteTask controller, the machine response is instantaneous. The feel and response mirrors the operator controls of the machine itself. Remote controls I’ve tested previously often had a delayed response.”

The remote system can be installed in 16 different models of Cat D Series machines and is able to control over 200 work tool attachments with hydraulic functions.
