Cleveland Brothers Completes Three D10T Certified Powertrain Rebuilds
When it comes to earthmoving, a Cat® D10 dozer is just about as extreme as it gets. With the responsibility to push tons of coal each and every day, Wolf Run Mining Co. depends on their Cat dozers to get the job done. Recently, the Cleveland Brothers team completed three nearly identical Certified Powertrain (also known as a CPT) rebuilds on Wolf Run Mining’s D10Ts.
A Cat Certified Powertrain rebuild revitalizes a machine, like a D10, and saves about half compared to the cost of a new machine. After a Certified Powertrain rebuild, a D10 can remain in working condition for up to another 12,000 to 15,000 hours! With about 30,000 to 40,000 working hours on each of these three dozers, the technicians rebuilt the engine, transmission, torque converter, rear ends, both final drives, differentials and cooling system. Due to the heavy use and condition of these dozers, several frame cracks also surfaced that required extensive repairs. The Cleveland Brothers technicians located at the Somerset and Murrysville facilities completed this job—from start to finish—in a little under three months.
In addition to the extensive rebuilds, all three dozers had rippers and blades they no longer required. The parts department worked with them to exchange their rippers for counterweights and exchanged their Semi-Universal (SU) blades for coal blades to better suit their needs. In addition to having the ability to trade in their blades and rippers for something they actually needed, they also received a parts credit due to the cost difference.
