Cleveland Brothers Branch Spotlight: Blawnox Facility
Sparks are flying at the Blawnox facility. With cutting-edge machining and fabrication services, the Cleveland Brothers Blawnox location has many capabilities and an experienced staff to meet your specific requirements.
Open since 1981, the facility features the largest cranes of any Cleveland Brothers branch, with two 20-ton side-by-side hoists, which can lift up to 40 tons together, a separate 20-ton hoist and a 10-ton hoist. The large cranes allow the technicians at Blawnox to work on massive attachments, like D11 blades and 777 truck beds. They have the capability to hook the cranes up to an attachment, pick it up and turn it 360 degrees for repairs with ease.
To ensure the best quality and efficiency possible on all welding jobs, all welders at Blawnox are certified and weld most everything in the flat position. This helps to increase productivity and weld quality by precisely matching or exceeding original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
Custom Design & Build
When it comes to buckets, the team at Blawnox has the potential to design and build custom buckets to meet a customer’s specific requirements. An impressive feature available to customers is that a technician can take another manufacturer’s bucket and re-engineer it to fit a piece of Cat® equipment.
Besides specializing in the service of buckets or blade assemblies, the facility is also capable of servicing track assemblies, including those on a D11. Blawnox features two Cat track presses with 375-ton capacity, which allows the team to service track on D8R through D11T Cat machines, and the tracks of other OEM models.
High Quality Track Repair
Currently, the facility has four track presses with the ability to perform pin and bushing turns on two D11 tracks at the same time – resulting in less downtime. Two of the track press conveyor systems have shoe lifting devices that can lift all of the track shoes at once to increase productivity. Before assembly, all track parts are sent to the contamination control-compliant parts washing cabinet to be cleaned.
To ensure the highest quality on track repairs, Blawnox has a Cat torque wrench system. This tool is computerized and programmable to ensure consistent torque values during the track assembly process. It accurately torques hardware on the tracks to prevent premature loosening.
Blawnox also has a Cat test and fill machine which is used to check the integrity of the repaired section’s pressure and installs the specific amount of oil into the pin to complete the repair. This lets technicians turn a scheduled set of customer track in 24 hours.
Machining Around the World
All of these features allow the team at Blawnox to get into non-traditional fabrication, welding and machining projects. Two of the most unique projects successfully completed by the facility was a fabrication of a gimbal (which is a mechanism for keeping an instrument, like a compass or a chronometer horizontal in a moving vessel) on the Hubble Space Telescope. The second project was fabricating bases for Patriot Missiles. Over the years, Blawnox has also provided fabrications that have shipped all over the world, including Russia.
