Derry Construction Awarded Arnold Palmer Regional Airport Paving Job

For a company that started in a small town, Derry Construction Co., Inc. is no small business when it comes to paving jobs. Recently, Derry Construction was awarded the $5.1 million Arnold Palmer Regional Airport runway paving contract located in Latrobe, Pa.

Since 1945, the paving contracting company has continued to thrive as a multi-million dollar business, paving roads all across the southwestern Pennsylvania region. With their headquarters in Derry, Pa., and asphalt plants located in Torrance, Pa., and Delmont, Pa., they have grown an inventory of over 50 Cat® machines and about 100 employees. They specialize in asphalt paving, roadway milling, drainage work, sub base installation and excavation work for commercial, residential, townships, private sector, the Department of Transportation and local airport authorities.

Cat Equipment Expedites Job Completion

In 2017, Derry Construction resurfaced the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport runway in Latrobe, Pa., thanks due to public contracting. This was a $3.5 million project that included milling, paving and repairing, laying a total amount of 28,000 tons of asphalt. The job was challenging and complex due to the size and time restrictions given, but in eight days, from start to finish, Derry Construction got the job done in a timely manner–thanks to the help of Cat equipment.Cleveland Brothers rollers

This past September, they were awarded a $5.1 million contract to pave the runway again, which was widened from 100 ft. to 150 ft. They laid a total of 26,500 tons of asphalt, hauling approximately 5,000 tons of asphalt daily out of their two asphalt plants in Delmont and Torrance. Completing the job in seven total working days, they operated Cat equipment that included six rollers, two pavers, two material transfer vehicles and 42 triaxles to finish the job on time and budget. With the help of Cleveland Brothers, both of their airport runway projects turned out to be a huge success.
